As part of the biological science curriculum, the year 2 class had been learning about metamorphosis life cycles. The Indonesian teacher and class teacher decided to team up and do Ulat Bulu (The Very Hungry Caterpillar) as the class assembly item at the end of Term 4. The Indonesian teacher taught the students the story in Indonesian (using our whole school approach of Talk4Writing) during Indonesian lessons.

The class teacher approached the Art teacher to ask if she could work with the students to create the artwork for the assembly props which was a giant caterpillar and Indonesian fruits in her lessons as she would be able to create more detailed items.

During  Digital Technologies lessons, the students created a video on AdobeSpark, with the English translation of The Very Hungry Caterpillar written on the pages, so that the audience would be able to follow the story as they spoke it on the day.

The Indonesian teacher translated what she could into Indonesian for the assembly script and the class teacher practiced with the students until they had it down pat.

By working together and combining their educational expertise to prepare for the assembly, the three teachers were able to address the curriculum outcomes from seven subjects areas: Design and Technologies, Digital Technologies, Performing Arts, Indonesian Language, Science, Visual Arts and Literacy.
