Coolbinia Primary School Cross-curricular Butterfly Project
The whole school, K-Year 6, participated in the butterfly project. All classes had butterfly kits to demonstrate the life cycle – eggs, caterpillars, chrysalis and butterflies for release. Students also created beautiful butterfly artwork under the guidance of Noogar Artist, Sharyn Egan, and learnt about the local butterfly-host plants from Aboriginal elder, Lenard Thorne. To record the students learning the school community created a butterfly book titled, Kaadadjiny Bindi-Bindi.
A copy of the butterfly book, Kaadadjiny Bindi-Bindi, is available from the school office at a cost of $40 each. This price is the cost of publication. Alternatively, teaching staff from schools within the Fremantle or Cockburn district can borrow a copy of Kaadadjiny Bindi-Bindi from the South Coogee Primary School library.
Dr Elaine Lewis, the cross-curricular coordinator at Coolbinia Primary School has agreed to share the information slides from her presentation at a Butterfly Garden Project Teachers' Workshop.
